The 2008 EDI Conference In REVIEW

The 13th Annual Entrepreneurial developing Institute (EDI) Conference, convened by the Alabama DBE Consortium and the Alabama discussion section of Transportation (ALDOT) was held at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Spa in Huntsville, Alabama on April 22-25, 2008. True to its theme Partnering Through Diversity, DBEs, Primes and Governement Contractors Working Together, the quatern day conference provided a forum for discussion, networking, learning, and inspiration.

The network answer held on Tuesday, April 22nd, was a prelude to the weeklong planned workshops and activities. The reception provided an opportunity for networking, good food and music provided by a jazz ensemble. The reception was sponsored by the Alabama Road Builders Association.

Mr. D. J. McInnes, managing director of ALDOT was the featured speaker for the conference opening breakfast. Mr. McInnes spoke on a wide range of topics, starting with a face-to-face message on reducing Alabama highway fatalities by challenging each person at the breakfast to split up seat belts to the future of Alabamas Highway constructions budget. He closed his speech by challenging the DBEs to take profit of conferences such as the EDI and the DBE program to improve their companies.

Sharon Myers, CEO of Myers technical Services, engaged the participants during the first workshop entitled, Business Marketing. Ms. Myers stressed on the importance of mastering your elevator speech and the dos and turn ints of networking. The networking exercises provided conference participants with the time to discuss their work and learn from their peers.

Dr. Beverly Edmond, Provost and viciousness President of Academic Affairs at Alabama A&M University, (at the time of the conference; she has since been named Interim President) was the featured tiffin speaker.
