Glycolysis: A molecule of glucose (a 6-carbon compound ) is degraded in a series of enzyme-catalyzed reactions to yield 2 molecules of pyruvate (a 3-crbon compound). Two molecules of adenosine triphosphate and two molecules of NADH are also produced. This is carried out under anaerobiotic conditions.
